Alex Larke, who sang for the UK at Eurovision 2015, fronts The Rolling Clones at Campus West's Hawthorne Theatre on Friday 6 November at 7.30pm.
Alex Larke, a Welwyn Garden City singer who represented the UK at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest as part of Electro Velvet, is bringing his Rolling Stones tribute band home. The Rolling Clones play the Hawthorne Theatre at Campus West on Friday 6 November at 7.30pm.
Larke is the band’s frontman. The Rolling Clones formed in 1997, so next year is their 30th anniversary, and Larke has toured with them across the UK and overseas. The Campus West date, the band says in its press release, is a particularly special stop because it puts the show in front of a home crowd.
“We formed back in 1997, which slightly terrifyingly means next year is our 30th anniversary,” Larke said. “The show is very much about recreating the energy, swagger and chaos of a Rolling Stones gig rather than doing the museum-piece tribute thing.”

What the night is
The set is built on the Stones’ best-known songs. The press release names Satisfaction, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Paint It Black, and the Campus West listing adds Brown Sugar. The band describes the show as one designed to catch “the energy, swagger and unpredictability of a Stones gig”, with plenty of audience interaction along the way.
Campus West bills it as “a full-blooded, hit-packed celebration of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band of all time”, and opens its listing with a line from Wayne’s World 2: “Keith Richards cannot be killed by conventional weapons.”
From Vienna to The Campus
Electro Velvet was the UK’s act at Eurovision in 2015, the year the contest was held in Vienna. Larke is based in Welwyn Garden City, and this time the stage is in his home town. The photographs on this page are from the band’s earlier shows.
