St Peter's at Ayot has carols on 6 December and Codicote by candlelight on the 13th. Most Welwyn and Hatfield churches have not yet listed their 2026 services.

This page lists the eight carol, crib, Christingle and Christmas services we could confirm for Christmas 2026 in and around Welwyn Hatfield, plus Hatfield Park’s candlelit concert. It is short because most churches have not listed their services yet. We checked the Church of England’s A Church Near You listings on 5 November, and we will add services as they appear.

The quick answer

  • Carols at the Galleria, Hatfield: Tuesday 1 December 2026, 5pm to 6pm (Hatfield Town Council)
  • Christmas Candlelight Concert, Hatfield Park: Saturday 5 December 2026, 6.30pm, from £25 adult and £15 child (Hatfield Park)
  • Carol Service, St Peter’s, Ayot St Peter: Sunday 6 December 2026, 11.15am (A Church Near You)
  • Carols by Candlelight, St Giles, Codicote: Sunday 13 December 2026, 6.30pm, with mulled wine and mince pies afterwards (A Church Near You)
  • Not listed yet: St Etheldreda’s and St Luke’s in Hatfield, St Francis of Assisi in Welwyn Garden City, and most other parish churches. Hatfield Park’s own carol service is not listed for 2026 either

Carols at the Galleria, Tuesday 1 December

Hatfield Town Council lists Carols at the Galleria for 5pm to 6pm at the shopping centre, AL10 0XR. The council’s site would not open to us on 5 November, so this is its listing as we last read it on 29 October. Check the council’s event page before you go.

Christmas Candlelight Concert, Saturday 5 December

This one is a ticketed concert, not a church service. The London String Trio and Quartet play carols and seasonal favourites in the Great Hall of the Old Palace at Hatfield Park. Doors open at 6pm and the concert starts at 6.30pm. Seats run from £25 adult and £15 child in the cheapest block, up to £50 and £40 in the dearest. The park calls it suitable for all ages and says seats are limited (Hatfield Park). Parking and the rest of the winter programme are on our Hatfield House winter page.

St Peter’s, Ayot St Peter

St Peter’s, on Ayot St Peter Road, AL6 9BG, has two services before Christmas Day (A Church Near You):

  • Carol Service, Sunday 6 December, 11.15am. A traditional service, with the church dressed in foliage, berries and lights.
  • Crib Service, Sunday 20 December, 11.15am. Children fill the crib with the nativity characters as the Christmas story is told.

Its Christmas Morning service is at 11.15am on Friday 25 December.

St Giles, Codicote

St Giles is on Bury Lane, SG4 8XX, in Codicote, which is in North Hertfordshire rather than Welwyn Hatfield (A Church Near You).

  • Christingle Service, Sunday 6 December. The listing’s time field says 5pm, but its description says 4pm, so check with the church. Donations go to The Children’s Society.
  • Carols by Candlelight, Sunday 13 December, 6.30pm. A candlelit service with choir, then mulled wine and mince pies.
  • Crib Service, Thursday 24 December, 4pm. Family friendly, and children can come dressed as a nativity character.
  • Midnight Mass, Thursday 24 December, 11pm.

Who has not published yet

On 5 November, these churches had no Advent or Christmas services on their A Church Near You pages:

That listing covers Church of England parishes only. Running a carol service at another church or with a choir? Email hello@welwynonline.co.uk with the date, time and venue, and we will add it free of charge.

Hatfield Park’s carol service

Last year Hatfield Park held Christmas Carols on the North Front on Thursday 11 December 2025, with the Welwyn Garden City Brass Band. Its listings, which we read on 5 November and which run to 20 December, show no carol service for 2026. We are watching for it on our Hatfield House winter page.

Getting there

Ayot St Peter and Codicote are village churches, so check your route and parking with the church. Town car park tariffs are on our parking in Welwyn Garden City page, and current closures are on our roadworks and travel page.
