The Red Lion, Hatfield

The Red Lion is at 88 Great North Road, AL9 5EU. Its events list has New Year’s Eve at 6pm with a three-course festive dinner and a DJ. The New Year’s Eve menu linked from its page is £39.50 a person for three courses, with mains including a 10oz ribeye, baked salmon and a parsnip and cranberry nut loaf (The Red Lion, menu). The pub’s festive hours for the day are 12pm to 1am, with food until 9pm. On New Year’s Day it opens 12pm to 6pm, with food until 5pm. Call 01707 262868 to book.

The Plough, Cuffley

The Plough is on Plough Hill, EN6 4DW, and is run by the same brewery as the Red Lion. Its events list has New Year’s Eve at 8pm with Ali Rose, and its opening and food hours are the same as the Red Lion’s on both days (The Plough). It links the same £39.50 New Year’s Eve menu. The White Hart, Welwyn

The White Hart is at 2 Prospect Place, Welwyn, AL6 9EN. It is closed from 25 to 30 December and reopens on New Year’s Eve “with event”, promising “great food and drink”. It has not said what the event is or what it costs. For New Year’s Day its page gives two closing times, 4pm and 5pm, so check before you go (The White Hart). Call 01438 715353.

Daytime panto and roller disco

Campus West has Dick Whittington at 10.30am and 2.30pm on 31 December, with tickets from £26 to £31.50 on the booking system (Campus West). There is no adult Blue Panto that night; its nearest dates are 30 December and 2 January. More dates are on our pantomime page.

Getting home

National Rail says trains on “some routes will finish earlier than normal” on New Year’s Eve, and tells passengers not to assume the normal timetable is running. It also says some London routes will run special services after midnight, with its guide due in early December (National Rail, Christmas and New Year 2026/27). Great Northern and Thameslink have not yet published last trains for this route, so see our Christmas trains and travel page before you plan a night in London. What is still to be confirmed

  • Whether the Red Lion’s or the Plough’s New Year’s Eve evening needs a ticket or a deposit. Neither pub’s page says.
  • The White Hart’s New Year’s Eve event and price.
  • Attimore Hall and The Crooked Chimney. Both offered New Year’s Eve when we read their Christmas pages for our Christmas dinner page, but their sites would not open to us on 5 November, so we have no times or prices.
