A free pumpkin patch on The Campus on Friday 30 October, Hatfield Park's Haunted Forest from £8 and pick-your-own at Willows, with every date and price.
Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, and the free event in Welwyn Garden City is the day before: the Spooktacular and Mini Pumpkin Patch on The Campus, Friday 30 October, 11am to 4pm. The biggest paid event is Witches and Wizards Week at Hatfield Park, a Haunted Forest trail that runs every day from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November. For a proper pumpkin field, the nearest confirmed one is Willows Activity Farm at London Colney.
The quick answer
- Free in town: Spooktacular and Mini Pumpkin Patch, The Campus, Friday 30 October, 11am to 4pm (One Welwyn Hatfield)
- Biggest event: Witches and Wizards Week, Hatfield Park, 24 October to 1 November, 10.30am to 4pm, £16 adult, £8 child
- Pick your own pumpkins: Willows Activity Farm, London Colney, weekends from 10 October then every day 23 to 31 October, £20.95 to £22.95 a ticket, with one free pumpkin per paid child
- On Halloween itself: Mill Green’s Monster Mash Bash (£10), Hocus Pocus at 10am and Scream at 8pm at Campus West
- Still to be announced: Tewinbury’s pumpkin patch at Tewin, which ran last year but has no 2026 dates
Half term for Hertfordshire schools is Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, and the clocks go back an hour on Sunday 25 October, so the sun sets before 5pm all week. Every price below was read from the organiser’s own booking system on 4 October 2026.
Spooktacular and Mini Pumpkin Patch, The Campus
Friday 30 October, 11am to 4pm, Welwyn Garden City town centre, based on The Campus, AL8 6AE. Free.
The council’s events listing describes a pumpkin patch, Halloween activities and “family-friendly fun”. It is paid for by the town centre’s businesses through the Welwyn Garden City BID, with extra money from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (One Welwyn Hatfield). The listing does not say whether the pumpkins are free to take or sold, or how many there are, so do not promise a child one. It is a “mini” patch in a town centre, not a farm field.
It runs on a weekday, the last day of half term. Roller City’s Halloween skate party is a few minutes’ walk away at 2pm the same afternoon (below), so the two fit into one trip.
Witches and Wizards Week, Hatfield Park
Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, 10.30am to 4pm, last entry 3pm. Adult £16, child £8, or £12 for the hat workshop alone.
This is the borough’s largest Halloween event, and it runs across both weekends either side of half term, including Halloween itself. The ticket covers three things (Hatfield Park):
- Entry to the park and the Haunted Forest Walk, a trail through the Woodland Walks with “bewitching creatures, magical scenes, and ghostly surprises”, all made from recycled materials by Sarah Ruggeri of the park and gardens team. Children collect hidden letters on an activity sheet to spell a magic word.
- One hat-decorating workshop in the Riding School, run by the children’s craft company Splodgers.
- The hat, which children wear round the trail and take home.
The park itself warns that the woodland paths “can be grassy, uneven, and muddy”, and suggests wellies. It is a daytime trail: nothing is advertised after 4pm. Parking at Hatfield Park is free; drive in through George’s Gate, AL9 5HX. On foot or by train, the park gate is opposite Hatfield station.
The Miller’s Monster Mash Bash, Mill Green
Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, entry slots on the hour from 10am to 2pm. £10, free for children aged two and under.
Mill Green Museum and Watermill, Bush Hall Lane, AL9 5PD, runs a haunted trail, a pumpkin patch and a “Monster Miller” in its grounds over the last two days of the holiday, and asks for old-school costumes. Entry is by timed slot, booked through the museum (Mill Green Museum). Unusually for Mill Green, this runs on a Saturday: the museum normally opens on Fridays and Sundays only.
Pick your own pumpkins
There is no pick-your-own pumpkin field confirmed inside Welwyn Hatfield for 2026. Two farms are worth knowing about.
Willows Activity Farm, London Colney (confirmed). The Pumpkin Festival runs on 10 and 11 October, 17 and 18 October, and every day from 23 to 31 October, with the pumpkin patch open 10am to 4.30pm (last entry) inside the farm’s normal day, which ends at 5.30pm. Tickets are £20.95 to £22.95 for an adult (16 and over) or a child of 90cm and above, plus a 75p booking fee, and every paid child ticket includes one free standard pumpkin. Children under 90cm need a free ticket (the booking fee still applies) but cannot pick a pumpkin unless you buy a £2.95 upgrade. Adults cannot visit without children. The ticket also covers a Halloween maze, pumpkin carving, a Mini Monster Mash disco at 4.30pm, the tractor ride and the farm’s Peter Rabbit shows. The farm is cashless and suggests boots or wellies for the fields (Willows Activity Farm, ticket prices, 23 to 31 October programme). It is at Coursers Road, AL4 0PF, south of St Albans, off the A1081 near the M25.
Tewinbury, Tewin (not yet announced). Tewinbury Farm opened its own pumpkin patch at Tewin Water last year, from Wednesday 29 October to Saturday 1 November 2025, at £8 entry (under twos free), with pumpkins paid for separately at £2 to £9 depending on size, card only, and dogs on leads allowed (Tewinbury, 2025 listing as archived). On 4 October 2026 its live event pages still showed the 2025 dates and its events calendar had no pumpkin patch for this year. There is no 2026 date yet, so do not book on last year’s details. We will add it here if Tewinbury confirms one.
Halloween films at Campus West
Campus West’s cinema, on The Campus, AL8 6BX, has three Halloween screenings (Campus West cinema):
| Film | When | Standard | Child, student, senior, disabled |
|---|---|---|---|
| Halloween (1978), Monday Night Classic | Mon 26 October, 8pm | £10.35 | £9.35 |
| Hocus Pocus (1993) | Sat 31 October, 10am; Sun 1 November, 12.30pm | £12.25 | £11.20 |
| Scream (1996) | Sat 31 October, 8pm | £12.25 | £11.20 |
Hocus Pocus is the one for families. The other two are for adults.
Roller City Halloween Skate Party
Friday 30 October, 2pm, 90 minutes, Roller City at Campus West. A public skate session with Halloween music, fancy dress prizes and sweets handed out. £10.35 to skate in your own skates, £14.15 with skate hire, £6.95 for a non-skater (Campus West).
The week before half term
Spooky Special 2, Sunday 18 October, 1pm and 4.30pm, Campus West, £15. A Halloween dance show by Younique Dance School, with performers of all ages (Campus West).
The rest of half term
- Family Half Term Mosaic Workshop, Mill Green, Wednesday 28 October at 11am and 12.15pm: a Halloween mosaic with Montet Designs, £15 a place (Mill Green Museum).
- Charity Lego and Fire Walk, Welwyn Garden City town centre, Tuesday 27 October, for the Willow Foundation. Watching is free (Willow Foundation).
- Everything else that week, from holiday skate discos to soft play, is on our October half term page.
Not happening, or changed
- Soft Play City’s Halloween party on 30 October is no longer listed. It appeared on Campus West’s booking system in September at £12.50 a child, but on 4 October it had gone. The ordinary half term soft play sessions are still on sale.
- Mill Green’s Halloween Wreath Workshop on 4 October was withdrawn by the museum in late September.
- There is no council-run Halloween night event. The borough’s events calendar has nothing on Saturday 31 October itself.
Getting there and parking
The Campus events, Roller City and the Campus West cinema are all in the town centre, a short walk from Welwyn Garden City station. The nearest council car parks and their charges are on our parking in Welwyn Garden City page. Hatfield Park and Mill Green both have free parking. Check our roadworks and travel page before driving to Willows, which is reached via the A1(M) and the A414 or the A1081.
What it means for you
- For something free, go to The Campus on Friday 30 October.
- For the best day out, book Hatfield Park’s Haunted Forest; at £16 and £8 it costs a family of four £48, against at least £83.80 at Willows before the booking fee.
- For pumpkin picking in a real field, Willows is the only confirmed option. Book a weekday from 23 October or one of the October weekends; the free pumpkin comes with each paid child ticket.
Every date and price above is from the organisers’ own listings and booking systems, checked on 4 October 2026. Events sell by timed slot, so book ahead, and check the organiser’s page before you set off.
