Solar Horizon, an independent science-fiction film from WSTstudios, is set in Welwyn Garden City. Its poster carries a 2027 date. Here is what the team sent us.

An independent science-fiction film called Solar Horizon is being made by a small studio that says its story is set in Welwyn Garden City.

The film comes from WSTstudios, and its maker, Imeth Kannangara, got in touch with Welwyn Online this week asking for help getting it noticed. “I’m working on indie science-fiction movie and it would mean the world to me if you would please help me bring some publicity to it so it gets recognised,” the studio wrote.

When we asked whether the film had a connection to the town, the answer was short and direct: “The movie is also based in Welwyn Garden City.”

What the studio has shown so far

The poster WSTstudios sent puts the title, in white lettering, across a jagged red emblem on a black background, with 2027 printed in red at the top. The studio has not told us what the date stands for, and we have not been given a release date, a running time or a cast list.

Alongside the poster came three photographs, which the studio describes as photos and stills from the movie. They are quiet, green scenes rather than spaceships: a path and benches under willow trees, a wooden fence beside a large tree, and a wide stretch of open water under a cloudy sky. The studio has not told us where each was taken, so we have not guessed.

What it means for you

For now, Solar Horizon is a project in progress rather than a film you can book a ticket for. If you live in Welwyn Garden City, you may recognise some of the places on screen when it is finished. The studio says it is happy to share more information, images and details, and we will report the release date and any local screening when they are announced.

If you are part of a local film project, a theatre group or a band and want it covered, write to us at the address on our about page.
