Nominations for the 2027 One Welwyn Hatfield Community Awards close on 18 December. Nine categories, down from 14, and a 200-word case is needed.
Nominations are open for the 2027 One Welwyn Hatfield Community Awards. Anyone can put forward a person, group or business that has made a difference in the borough. The deadline is 18 December.
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council announced the awards on 22 September. This is the fourth year they have run. The council organises them, and it says they are paid for entirely by sponsorship.
The nine categories
There are fewer categories this time. The 2027 list has nine:
- Mayor’s Special Recognition Award
- Young Cultural Award
- Young Sportsperson Award
- Community Sports Club Award
- Young Impact Award
- Healthy Communities Award
- Business Impact Award
- Climate Impact Award
- Volunteer Excellence Award
The 2026 awards had 14 categories and drew 166 nominations. Three of the nine 2027 categories are for young people.
Who won last time
The 2026 winners were named at Campus West on 26 February. They included:
| 2026 category | Winner |
|---|---|
| Community Sports Club | Platypus Swimming Club |
| Voluntary and Community Sector Organisation of the Year | Red Kite Rape & Sexual Assault Service |
| Welwyn Hatfield for All | Hatfield Food Bank |
| Community Culture Award | Knife Angel Project Team |
| Local Business of the Year | Mill Green Golf Club |
| Health and Wellbeing Champion | JP Coaching |
The full list of 14 winners is on the council’s results page.
How to nominate
- Go to the Community Awards page on the One Welwyn Hatfield website.
- Choose one of the nine categories.
- Write a summary of at least 200 words on why your nominee deserves an award.
- Submit it before 18 December.
A panel of judges from across the local community draws up the shortlist. The winners will be announced at an evening event at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City in March 2027.
Councillor Max Holloway, the council’s executive member for community and leisure, asked residents to “get nominating” and to “celebrate those unsung heroes in our borough”.
What it means for you
- If a coach, volunteer, club or shop near you does more than it has to, this is the chance to say so in public. The nomination is free.
- The 200-word minimum is the main hurdle. Specific examples help: what they did, for whom, and over how long.
- Young people have three categories of their own: cultural, sport and impact.
- Businesses can be nominated too, under Business Impact.
